It is impossible to say how the sarcophagus came to be found where it was. We may assume that it was placed in that corner of the Gardens at the time of being constructed, though whether it was then buried or was subsequently interred is not clear. The fact that the discovery was made at a spot opposite the road called after Sir R. G. Macdonnell, may be a mere coincidence.
